FRIDAY TREAT: COCKTAIL TASTING

Dear Jackie,

We at Dear Jackie have been very busy looking for the perfect Joan & Jackie Collins cocktails.

The Twinkle has gold sparkles in it, and it's delicious. What I really like about this cocktail is that some of the little gold sparkles stick around on the face and hands- its as if the drinker becomes more fabulous after having it, similar to how I feel after reading a Jackie Collins novel. However, The Twinkle has champagne in it and we know that you can't stand champagne. Therefor it's suitable for Joan since sometimes you can't stand her! We know how she enjoys sipping champaign with young hunks in her hotel suite. Perhaps you would prefer The Clover Club. It;s fuchsia with a creamy top and is also very delicious. They are both very Joan & Jackie Collins-esque because they are tasty, gorgeous, and never get old.

Will you and Joan be joining us for the party?

TWINKLE
An elegant serving of 42 Below vodka stirred with elderflower cordial, served in a martini glass and topped with Champagne.

Origin: Created in 2002 by Tony Conigliaro at The Lonsdale, London. Tony founded the fabulous 69 Coleborook Row in London's East End.

To make:
  • 3 shots 42 Below (or favorite) vodka
  • ¾ shot St~Germain elderflower liqueur
  • Top up with Perrier Jouet brut Champagne
  • Add edible gold sparkles
SHAKE first 2 ingredients with ice and fine strain into chilled glass. Top with Champagne.

CLOVER CLUB
Bombay Sapphire shaken with raspberry syrup and lemon juice. Whipped into a creamy foam with a dash of albumen and Peychaud bitters, served in frozen martini glass.

Origin: Pre-dates Prohibition, The Clover Club cocktail is named for the Philadelphia men's club of the same name, which met in the Bellevue-Stratford hotel.

To make:

* 2 oz gin
* juice of 1/2 lemon
* 1/4 oz raspberry syrup
* 1 egg white
* 1 tsp sugar

SHAKE vigorously (more than normal to properly mix the egg and sugar) and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Top with fresh raspberry.

CALL ME RE: JACKIE COLLINS CAR BOMB CUPCAKE RECIPE

Dear Jackie,

Today I'm in the kitchen baking 'Jackie Collins Car Bomb Cupcakes' for Sunday's Art Car Boot Fair. Everything is going swimmingly except I accidentally spilled my cocktail on the recipe! Oops I guess I had one too many cocktails.

Anyway, now there are illegible ink smudges so I can't see the proportions. For the ganache filling do I add 2 teaspoons of whiskey or 2 cups? I added 2 teaspoons and it was definitely not strong enough so then I added 2 cups of whiskey and I figure that should do the trick. Boy it really has a kick!

Have you received my answer phone message?

Call me!

ORIANA FOX IS WORKING OUT WITH MR. LET'S PAINT

Dear Jackie,

Have you been watching Let's Paint TV? The most recent episode is very exciting because guest star Oriana Fox is Multitasking with Mr. Let's Paint. Oriana and Mr. Paint are great multitaskers. They are making BBQ, playing badminton, and working on beautiful paintings of psychedelic mushrooms while get'n fit on the treadmill. Can you believe that the hot-dogs ended up on the ground? That was such a powerful moment. Good thing there were two hot-dogs left- I just love to eat while get'n fit.

I like to multitask too. Like, I'm writing this letter to you, ya? Well I'm also getting a pedicure, drinking a dry martini, talking on the phone (to BFF Dawn), and flipping through the latest edition of Vague- all while wearing my super trendy custom t shirt from Mr. Let's Paint. I am inspired.

A celebrity top-secret tip for getting in shape fast: do your butt crunches while sitting in the salon chair. Don't knock the odd multitasking regiment!

Embrace Failure While Get'n Fit!

HOMEMADE RUM & ALMOND PITHIVIERS, PRONOUNCED PITY-VYAY

Dear Jackie,

The recipe is far too complex to repeat here, however I do suggest having your cook find the recipe and make this wonderful and delightful pastry. It is of the utmost importance that your cook would only make the traditional French pastry from scratch, even though it is almost 24 hours of labor. After all, what are you paying the help for? And that is why it is called Pitiviers, pronounced pity-vYAY.

And please do NOT let any of your guests pronounce Pithivier any way other than the correct Pity- vYAY. We accept no lazy slurs or substitutions!

Bon Amor,
Sarah

BEST EVER BROWNIES

Take a break this afternoon and make these delicious brownies that have been county fair winners since 1969. Follow the directions exactly and everyone will be jealousing over your brownies. They should be gooey on the inside with a flaky crisp surface. DO NOT use less sugar!

1/2 cup butter
3.5 oz. bittersweet cooking chocolate
2 eggs
1 cup sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
3/4 cup sifted flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup chopped walnuts (optional but favorable)

Melt chocolate and butter over low heat and set aside to let cool. Beat the eggs rigorously. Blend in sugar, vanilla, and chocolate mixture (cool but still liquidy). Sift flour, baking powder, and salt. Stir into chocolate mixture. Add nuts. Spread in greased baking dish 11 x 7 x 1.5 inches. Bake in 350 F (180 C) oven for 25 min. Cool in pan before cutting.
Enjoy!

FRIDAY TREAT

This Friday Afternoon let us indulge in a Dry, Dirty Martini to celebrate a hard week of reading blog reports about Dirty Martinis.

DIRTY MARTINI (serves 2):

Plenty of Ice
4 shots of Gin
Dry Vermouth Bottle
2 Green Olives
Olive Brine to taste

First, chill your glass. To do this just add water and ice and wait.
In your mixer (or a tall glass) add plenty of ice.
Add Gin.
Sniff Dry Vermouth or if you must, add a few drops to gin.
Stir vigorously.
Empty water and ice from glasses.
Strain Martini into glasses evenly.
Add Olive and a few drops of Olive brine.

Important Martini Enjoyment Tip: Drink your Martini in three swift gulps so as to not baby your drink or
god forbid
it not be ICE COLD.

Ching ching!
